Taking care of your tattoo properly is the most important part to keep a fresh tattoo looking its best and for your overall health.

You should always wash your hands before handling your tattoo.

Saniderm/Second-Skin Bandage

Leave the Saniderm bandage for 2-4 days after the procedure. It will be normal if there’s fluid within the bandage.

Once the bandage is removed, gently wash the tattoo with soap and warm water. Pat dry with a clean towel.

Use only recommended healing ointment, which can be branded tattoo soaps or aquaphor. Use only a small amount.

Cleaning and moisturizing should be done 2-3 times a day until healed.

  •  If there is any sign of irritation or allergic reaction, take off the bandage and wash the tattoo. It can be washed with a proper tattoo soap or a gentle soap with warm water. Pat dry with a clean towel and apply a thin layer of healing ointment.
  • If the bandage starts leaking outside of its area, take off the bandage and start cleaning and moisturizing. If left with an air pocket, bacteria, dirt, and/or water can enter the bandage and possibly cause an infection.
Plastic Wrap Bandage

Remove bandage after 4-6 hours. Do not re-bandage.

Wash the tattoo gently with soap and warm water to remove excess of color and dry blood.

Dry tattoo with a soft, clean towel.

Use only recommended healing ointment, which can be branded tattoo soaps or aquaphor. Use only a small amount.

Cleaning and moisturizing should be done 2-3 times a day until healed.

What NOT to do

Do not remove the bandage too soon. It is there to protect your fresh tattoo from outside bacteria. Follow your artist’s recommendations if it’s based on personal need.

Do not put your tattoo directly under hot water– do not soak it either.

Do not pick the scabs.Limit your time in the sun. If you can’t, use a 30+SPF tattoo-specific sunscreen. Do not wear tight clothes. Your tattoo needs to breathe!

Do not go swimming or into saunas. This includes jacuzzis, pools, hot tubs, or the ocean.
